A Toast to Texas!

Thank you to everyone in Texas! In Texas we raised over $100,000.00 for fresh water wells, health clinics and sanitation projects in Africa. A special thanks goes out to The Oaks Fellowship in Red Oak and to the whole town of Tyler. Y'all are great people, ya' hear!

Louisiana, yours truly

When we entered in to Louisiana today, I didn’t prepare myself for the assortment of smells that I en… Continue

Highlights of the week...

Texas has been great. People have been friendly, of course. The places we've been have been interesting. The food (brisket) has been awesome and the riding has been mainly flat. Highlights: - I spoke at the Gathering which is the young adult service and my church in Red Oak, TX - We got a few days off in Dallas to rest and recuperate - We hosted our first benefit ride where approx. 1500 people showed up - The Oaks Fellowship hosted a Blood:Water Mission event featuring Brandon Heath - I got to… Continue

tyler, texas.

we are in tyler, texas. today we rode about 80 miles. it was a good ride, some bumpy roads, some hills, and some dogs, but in the end it was amazing. we went to the ride:well concert sponsered by a bunch of tyler, texas churches. sara groves was amazing, and so was don. we went up on stage and got a standing ovation because aaron smith basically milked it out of the crowd; it was still awesome though. and we got to meet our homeless friends who raised $2,000 and counting for blood:water mission.… Continue

Prayer

i stated in my first blog that i wasn't much of a blogger and didn't know what this would look like. i've never been one to assume i would know what tomorrow entails, but surely things are looking different than i would have imagined them for this summer. many of you have learned about my father's illness through this network and/or your involvement with the tour. i will come back to that topic, but first i want to start this by telling you about someone else's father. it is the father of a very… Continue

Where to start?

Where to start? We're already closing in on our halfway point of the tour and I have yet to blog about any of my experiences, reflections or lessons learned during the past three weeks (of which there are many). Apologies to those who I'd promised to keep better informed of my journey.. please understand that you have not been forgotten, but that time and energy have been scarce to do so! At a quick glance I could summarize our progress by listing that we have been in 4 states, crossed 3 mountai… Continue

Thanks for writing

I just wanted to make a quick post to say thank you to everyone who has been reading the blog posts, checking out pictures and keeping in touch with me on the network. I really appreciate it, and love getting comments and messages from all of you. And I am sorry that I am not able to respond to everyone in a timely manner. But please graciously accept this as a response and know that I love hearing from you and having your support. Keep checking in for more of this...… Continue

finally....Dallas

Well, we finally made it to Dallas. To me, Dallas has, for weeks, loomed off on the horizon representing a milestone city on the ride. It's not quite half way of our epic ride. Actually, we stayed in Red Oak, a suburb of Dallas. Red Oak is a city in Ellis County, Texas, United States. The… Continue

"It's a great day to be alive"

it took me a while to come up with a name for this blog post. but this song was stuck in my head all day yesterday, and it was arguably the best day of my life. first of all though i would like to recap since my last post which i think was when we were in alamogordo. we are in Red Oak, Texas now which means a lot has happend. we rode into texas last week and had a blast crossing the border. we had to ride 15 miles past the border to a small town called plains, texas. of course though, when we g… Continue

Notes from a Dallas City Rider

Just a quick note to encourage those of you who can get to Nashville and D.C. to get out and ride with and support the team. There are a lot of ways you can get involved. I really enjoyed meeting a good number of the group: Gregg (kind and just as articulate as all his posts), Erin (yep...she's wonderfully goofy in person as well), David (sorry, David... its hard for me to talk and ride), Mike (his words of spiritual wisdom came in handy when I hit a bit of a wall), Don (nice to meet one… Continue
